How this table is made

Expected goals (xG) estimate how many goals a team's chances were worth, from the quality of each shot. The xG figures come from third-party data providers, each with its own model; Football Charts does not calculate them, and values from different providers can differ, so compare across leagues and seasons with care.

Expected points (xPts) are ours: each match's two xG values give the chances of a win, a draw and a defeat (independent Poisson), and those chances give the points the match was worth. A team well above its xPts has taken more than its chances earned, which good finishing or luck can both explain. This is not the Performance vs Market ranking, which uses pre-match odds.

League-phase matches only: play-offs and promotion ties are left out, so a club's numbers can sit beside its place in the table. A season appears here only when at least 80% of its matches have the data.
